There have been varying positions on book trailers effectiveness. Personally, I like them. I think they’re fun and an inexpensive way to plug your book. But not everyone cares for them.
If they’re not more than a minute or so and you have a small cover blurb, I think they are interesting. Not so much if they’re longer than that. But I think overall they’re cool.
They don’t make me want to buy the book. The author’s reputation and the cover blurb do that. But, book trailers don’t hurt and may influence some readers. Certainly there are some nice ones available, including those by Yellow Rose RWA members, Ashley Kath-Bilsky and Brenda Novak. Authors have to do everything they can to promote their books. If the book trailer influences only a few people to buy, that’s more books sold. Can’t hurt.
